I started my Dwarf army
for 2 reasons. The first one being that I really
liked the Slayer models and to this day I still
think they're some of the most characterful
models Games Workshop has ever produced.
The second reason was that
my gaming group was running a Warhammer campaign
and the storyline involved a Dwarf army marching
to relieve a battered Empire force. Kind of
like the cavalry coming to the rescue in a cowboy
film, but obviously being Dwarves they were
on foot. The only problem with this plan was
that even using figures collected from everyone
taking part we could only muster around 1000
points, which wasn’t much of a rescue
party.
Not wanting to alter the storyline
and needing very little excuse to invest in
a new army I called the Games Workshop Mail
Order department and my Dwarf army arrived a
few days later!
I've only played with the
army a few times and in all bar one of the battles
things have not gone well for the short ones.
Although I'd like to blame the dice, which have
clearly been sabotaged by my High Elves, I think
my main problem has been learning to trust my
armour and toughness.
Using my High Elves and Beasts
of Chaos I’ve learnt to out manoeuvre
most opponents and meet them on my own terms.
However I’ve really got to stop trying
to achieve the same thing with the Dwarfs, who
for obvious leg length related reasons, are
struggling.
For my next game I am going
to draw upon the traits of stone and steel.
I'm going build a bearded anvil in my deployment
zone and pound my enemies with long range fire
while I wait for them to get into axe range!
I'll let you know how it goes...
