Warhammer 40,000: Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard is the largest and most diverse fighting force in the entire galaxy, comprised of countless billions of soldiers, armoured battle tanks and powerful artillery pieces. It is the Imperium’s ultimate war machine, the Hammer of the Emperor against which aliens, traitors and Warp-spawned horrors alike shall all be crushed.

Jon's Imperial Guard Army

Army Information / Updates:

I took an initial interest in the Emperor's foot slogging legions when the original metal Catachan Jungle Fighters were released. These were followed up by even more cool figures like the Tallarn Desert Raiders, the Mordian Iron Guard and the other various regiments. But, although I liked them the whole point of an Imperial Guard army to me was the massed infantry and at the time I couldn't really afford to start a force that would satisfy this dream.

Then Games Workshop released the plastic box sets! I decided to take the Cadian route over the Jungle Fighters and soon I had almost 2000 points worth of lasgun toting Guardsman with a Leman Russ, or 2 for support.

The next serious draft for this army came with the release of Apocalypse. While running a Battle of The Bulge themed campaign I added another 8 Leman Russ to my motor pool. The sight of all these tanks arrayed on the battlefield is an awesome sight!

The army mustered in the photo above grew again recently with the release of Planetstrike and Planetary Empires. If these two releases don't make you want to run a 40k campaign then I'm not sure what else will!

Being heavily into the narrative of my campaigns, I knew that to run a full blown planetary invasion I was going to need a solid Imperial Guard force. These guys would be forming the bulk of my defense force alongside my more elite Space Marines.

As you can probably see from the photo above my plans for this army primarily involve a lot of painting! I'll still be adding to the army as I'd really like to bolster the force with a Valkyrie or 2 and at least 1 super heavy tank.

I've also started a Vostroyan force as well. At the moment it only consists of around 40 men but I'll be adding to it gradually and building it up to form a grizzled urban fighting force!
